BF Best Paper Award Winners Announced at ICGS and EIASM Conferences

The Board Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of two distinguished academic awards recognizing outstanding contributions to the fields of corporate governance, board dynamics, and strategic leadership.
At the International Corporate Governance Society (ICGS) Conference 2025 at the Alliance Manchester Business School, The Board Foundation sponsored the Board Dynamics and Strategic Leadership Best Paper Award, which was presented to Rob Langan (Esade), Markus Meierer (University of Geneva), and Salome Lang (University of Geneva) for their paper titled “Who has done the Homework? Preparedness of Directors for Corporate Board Meetings.”
The award-winning research sheds new light on the critical issue of board effectiveness by exploring how directors’ preparation impacts boardroom performance and decision-making quality. The paper’s innovative approach and practical relevance earned high praise from the review committee, reflecting the authors’ strong contribution to advancing the understanding of boardroom dynamics.
In addition, The Board Foundation sponsored the Promising Corporate Governance Researcher Award at the Corporate Governance Workshop 2025 at TalTech organized by EIASM. This year’s award was presented to Julian Kordisch (Technische Universität Darmstadt) for his paper “Readability of Sustainability Reports: The Roles of ESG Performance and Audit Committee Characteristics,” co-authored with Reiner Quick.
The study offers valuable insights into how corporate governance structures and ESG performance influence the accessibility and transparency of sustainability reporting—an increasingly important topic in today’s global business environment.
“The Board Foundation is committed to supporting rigorous research that deepens our understanding of how boards operate and how governance practices can evolve to meet new challenges,” said Michael Hilb, Chair of the Board Foundation. “We warmly congratulate all the winners for their outstanding contributions to the field.”
Through its continued sponsorship of these awards, The Board Foundation reaffirms its mission to encourage excellence in academic research that strengthens board leadership, accountability, and sustainable governance practices worldwide.
